Attendance Standards: You are expected to be at all scheduled meetings and practices. Practices are from 1:45 to no later than 4:00. Unexcused Absences: 1-Unexcused Absence results in a "Dragon Reminder" plus not suiting up for the next contest. 2-Unexcused Absences result in a parent conference to decide your status with our track team. 3-Unexcused Absences result in dismissal from our track team. Excused Absences: Excessive excused absences will result in missing meets. You can’t help us if you’re not here. Tardy: Being late to practice or meetings results in a conducting a "Dragon Reminder." We are track coaches, not judges and lawyers. We will not filter through all the reasons you were late, whether it was a good reason or unacceptable. If you’re late, expect a "Dragon Reminder". You must be on the track by 1:45!! Missing a Meet: You cannot miss a meet. Illness is about the only reasonable excuse for missing a meet. Coaches must be informed ahead of time if you are that ill that you cannot attend a meet. Call school at 799-6830 (x-4015) and leave a message for Coach Dixon. Involvement in other Sports/Activities If you are on the track team you cannot participate in another Del Sol team’s practice or intramurals until the track season is over. If you happen to be dismissed from the track team, the same rule applies. You are not allowed to miss practice or meets for off campus/club sports. If you see a conflict between your club sport and track, make a decision now as to which you want to do. If there is a conflict between track and a school activity (band, choir, orchestra, etc) please let Coach Dixon know of these conflicts so a reasonable solution can be worked out. Here are the Del Sol rules regarding sports and school activities: Sport Practice = Activity Practice…cannot be penalized for missing either Performance = Performance…cannot be penalized for missing either Sport Game/Meet > Activity Practice…must attend the game/meet, cannot be penalized by the activity advisor. Activity Performance > Sport Practice…must attend the Activity Performance, cannot be penalized by the sports coach.

Running shoes/cross trainers and spikes for runners, throw shoes or similar type (non raised heel) shoe for throwers. Most of the retail stores in town will have good deals on running shoes. Specialty stores, like The Village Runner, will have high end running shoes and spikes. Specialty spikes and throw shoes can also be purchased online through places like Eastbay ( www.eastbay.com) or Dick Pond Athletics (www.dickpondathletics.com). Varsity sprinters/hurdlers/jumpers are required to have track spikes. Varsity distance runners are required to have distance spikes or racing flats.Males and female athletes are also required to wear proper fitting, supportive undergarments. IPods, cell phones and other electronic devices are not allowed at practice. If other people’s personal property has been left out, you are expected to secure it safely in the absence of authorized school personnel (staff and/or faculty). If school personnel are available, turn the personal property in for safeguarding it. In either case, inform one off your coaches of the item discovered so it can be announced and properly recovered. We don’t steal. We don’t compromise our integrity. Integrity is a team standard. You cannot practice with another sport during track season. You cannot participate in a non Del Sol track meet or road race during the season.
Standards for Participating in Fundraising: We expect our players to fully participate in our track program’s fundraising efforts. We encourage our players to pay for their Spirit Packs through diligent efforts rather than having parents simply cut a check. In addition to paying for the Spirit Pack, it teaches our athletes how to communicate with people, represent our track team, and to learn composure. Our track program is extremely dependant upon fundraising efforts in order to provide the best possible equipment and to help enhance our program. Parent Involvement: It is very important for the success of our track and field program that we have a strong parent involvement. Parents can help in many ways. Here is a list of parent support positions: Home meet worker….Field event judge (measuring, marking, raking). Experience is not needed. We will teach you. Helping with the computer operation in the press box. We run a fully automatic timing system for all of our home meets. If you would like to learn how this is done, let us know. We’d love to teach you. Photographer/Video Camera Person – If you have a knack for action photography (digital camera), shoot photos at our meets and save them to a disc. We will use those photos at our year end Awards Dinner. Shooting digital videos at our meets is a great way to help the coaches analyze our athletes’ techniques and help them become better. Concession Stand Workers – We have a person on campus that will be in charge of our concession stand. We do need moms and dads to work in the concession stand and grill burgers and hot dogs for all of our home meets.
Standards for riding a bus: We will travel to away meets on school busses. You may not drive yourself to a meet. If provided with 2 busses, boys will ride one bus and girls will ride the other. Athletes will wear their uniform, t-shirt and sweats on the bus. You will not board the bus without being in proper attire. Bring plenty of water and a healthy snack to meets as well. Keep noise on the bus to a minimum, conversational tone. When you leave the bus, make sure you have all of your belongings. You will ride the bus with the team back to school after the meet. You will not leave the meet early. Do you leave your football or basketball game early? If an emergency arises and you need to ride home with a parent, you must have a note signed by your parent. Be proud to be an American! Standards for the Track Banquet Banquets: Banquets are a means for honoring athletes, parents, coaches, and supporting agencies linked to the track program. It is an event that pays respects to our team and especially the outgoing seniors. Athletes are expected attend the end-of-the-year track banquet. This event is the culmination of the team’s season and is a time-honored event. It is rude and disrespectful not to attend your team’s banquet. Athletes are expected to be appropriately dressed. This is not the time to exercise selfish individuality and dress down. Respect the event and its purpose.
Standards for Track Equipment: All equipment used in track is the property of Del Sol High School. A player uses track equipment by permission only. Each player is issued track equipment assumes the responsibility (pride) of that equipment. To see that it is kept clean and in good repair. That it is not lost or stolen. That, at the end of its usage, the equipment is returned to the track shack.. Failure to return equipment, whether lost, stolen, or otherwise, will result in payment of a fine to cover the loss of the gear. Failure to pay the fine will result in the withholding of all your Del Sol HS athletic privileges. You are provided the best equipment our money can buy. It is up to you to take care of the equipment issued. Thievery will not be tolerated. Standards for your Actions – Attitude – Demeanor on the practice and game field: We expect a serious, business-like attitude at practice. INTENSITY! You must keep your uniform on in the competition area. Officials will disqualify you for removing any part of your uniform in the competition area. We will have a team warm-up in the middle of the field 30 minutes before the meet begins. This is just a preliminary warm-up. You will be doing specific warm-ups before the start of your event. After the preliminary warm-up, DO NOT go and sit in the bleachers. Get ready for your first event. Any electronic device (Cell Phone, IPod, disc player) is not allowed in the competition area. Officials will not warm you. You will be disqualified from your event. Standards for the Las Vegas Track Classic: The Las Vegas Track Classic is a major invitational that is attracting schools from all over the country. A lot of work goes into producing this meet and everyone’s help is expected. You must be available on both days of the meet to help. You will be assigned an area on the track or field and it will be your responsibility to make sure that your area is working well.
Standards for Regional and State Competition: When the Regional and/or State Championship is held at Del Sol High School, every member of the track team is required to help during those days. It is a huge responsibility hosting a championship meet and we need "all hands on board". If you have qualified for the Regional and/or State Meet…practices will be conducted after school as normal and you are required to attend. It is an honor to be able to represent Del Sol at a championship meet and you are expected to be 100% prepared. If you have not qualified for Regionals or State, make every effort to attend practice and support your teammates that have qualified. Having a training partner is very important to an athlete’s success.
Standards for Post Season: All uniforms and equipment must be turned in immediately after the season. Some of you may be selected for post season "All Star" competition (Great Southwest Invitational, etc) Coaches will work with you to get you prepared for this competition.
